Knitwear is perfect for this warmer-than-usual fall, and what’s better than making a cozy statement?
BB Dakota is my go-to brand for patterned ponchos. It features tribal prints in earth tones (and yes, red and green are “earthy”).
The Asher sweater is so comfy and cute. Order yours at shopbop.com for only $80. For a chic look when you’re on the go, just throw on a knit sweater dress over some skinny jeans or tights. Zara just made its online store available for the U.S., and it has a huge selection of affordable, cozy knits. Zara’s knit square jersey (pictured) is my go-to pick when I’m running out the door for my 8 a.m.
Of course, MOVE readers aren’t usually looking to spend more than $50 on a sweater. Luckily for us, we can find awesome options for under $10. Patterned knits don’t have to be expensive. Just go downtown to any of the vintage stores and take your pick from the dozens of patterns (and eras). Ladies, head over to the mens’ section at Maude V. and pick up a great oversized cardigan.
A knit staple that everyone should have in their closet is a basic oversized knit tunic. You can purchase one at zara.com for about $20. Pair this piece with jeans, leggings, tights or over a dress for a laid-back chic look. Since items like this aren’t very knit-looking, you can wear it with a warm knit cardigan without going overboard.
Obviously, knitwear this autumn doesn’t need to be restricted to tops. The perfect piece to finish off any outfit is a slouchy knit hat. For a chilly day, pull on a pair of knit tights or leggings. Urban Outfitters and Free People have great, affordable choices.
I’ve always been a fan of Philippe Matignon’s legwear. I’m obsessed with his Joli over-the-knee socks. They’re made of viscose (which means they’re amazingly soft and flattering) and feature a sheer top that’s ideal for scrunching at the knee — perfect for the layered look. Swank Boutique just got them in. Grab yours for $24.
If you’re looking for full-leg coverage, look into knit leggings and tights. They’re super warm and add a pop of texture to your look. American Apparel has some great options like cable knit. Free People has great choices, too: try the knit ruffle lace legging (pictured) or the Poconos sweater legging. Keep the rest of your outfit basic with legwear like this and finish it up with some leather boots.
