Dear Editor:
In the opinion article published in the Oct. 14 issue, “[My problem with Homecoming](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2011/10/14/my-problem-homecoming/),” the author gives misinformed facts to support her argument.
The author presumes the Homecoming Talent Competition is closed-off to the public. While this is true of “skits,” the musical talent portion is open to all Columbians. Also, open purchase of talent tickets is, and has been, available at Jesse Hall box office.
The author also deems Homecoming Campus Decorations as wasteful. She argues under the assumption that the cost and labor invested in Decorations is not redeemed by the entertainment provided to thousands of students and alumni, as well as the creation of a populated promotions arena for local businesses.
The author states she is not a Homecoming participant. I would encourage the author, and others feeling apathetic toward the Homecoming tradition, to experience all Homecoming has to offer first-hand. The experience might change one’s apathetic views.
Sincerely,
Cristina Andrews, senior
