An Auxvasse resident was arrested Saturday on charges of eight offenses following a vehicle pursuit, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
The pursuit began once the Boone County Sheriff’s Department’s Pro-Active Patrol Unit attempted to stop a vehicle for multiple violations and the vehicle failed to yield.
The pursuit began in the area of Highway 40 and Rocheport Gravel Road at about 10:18 p.m. and ended off the roadway in the area of Tucker Collins Road and Drake Lane. The suspect fled into an open field before being taken into custody.
Jay Hager, 20, fought against the arrest and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
“The suspect was handcuffed and it doesn’t appear that the suspect was seriously injured by any means,” Detective Tom O’Sullivan said. “They took a look at him in the hospital, and released him, and he’s in our jail.”
The deputy was not injured.
Deputies arrested Hager on charges of possession of firearm unlawful for certain persons, tampering in the first degree, possession of burglar’s tools, resisting arrest for a felony, assault of a law enforcement officer in the third degree, two counts of receiving stolen property, unlawful use of drag paraphernalia and failing to yield to an emergency motor vehicle, according to a news release.
The Sheriff’s Department determined the car Hager was driving had been reported as stolen to the Cole County Sheriff’s Department earlier in the evening, according to the news release. A hand-held GPS and shotgun which had also been reported stolen were found in the vehicle.
Hager is already a convicted felon, serving probation or parole for second degree burglary. He also had seven active warrants for his arrest in Audrain and Callaway Counties.
As a convicted felon, Hager was not allowed to possess a firearm in accordance with Missouri state law.
Hager is currently in the Boone County Jail with bond set at $297,000 for his outstanding warrants, $102,000 of which are cash-only.
The investigation remains active as he is the suspect in several vehicle thefts, burglaries and thefts in at least six mid-Missouri counties, according to the news release.
