MU’s Interfraternity Council held elections for its seven executive board positions 2 p.m. Sunday in Allen Auditorium. Each chapter sent either its president or a representative to cast a vote.
The IFC executive board is a program of the Office of Greek Life that oversees IFC chapters’ membership and responsibilities, Greek Life Senior Coordinator Julie Drury said.
“They’re the governing body of the 29 Interfraternity Council fraternities,” Drury said.
To be eligible to run for an officer position, an applicant must have a 2.5 GPA and be an active member of his fraternity. Two IFC chapter presidents must nominate each candidate.
“(Candidates) fill out an application that gives each chapter president or those going to be voting what their previous leadership history has been, what they will be involved in and ideas they have for the executive board,” Drury said.
Representatives voted for each position, and the results were announced immediately following the voting. MU’s IFC Twitter account provided the community with updates as positions were announced.
The new executive board members will be installed Nov. 29. They will transition into a few projects this semester, but will fully begin their terms January 2012.
“The way the Greek Life office views it, it’s a calendar-year term,” Drury said.
Patrick Wolff of Delta Tau Delta will serve as the IFC president. Wolff is currently his chapter’s president.
“I’m passionate about Greek Life, so I thought (running for IFC president) was the next step to improving it and making a difference in it,” Wolff said.
Alpha Epsilon Pi’s Matthew Goldsmith will be the Vice President of Recruitment. Goldsmith is his chapter’s recruitment chair.
Brad Rhodes of Kappa Alpha Order will be the Vice President of Risk Management. Rhodes is the current president of his chapter.
Delta Upsilon’s Lee Gorski will serve as the Vice President of Membership Development. Gorski is his chapter’s Vice President of Public Relations as well as a representative on Delta Upsilon’s Undergraduate Advisory Board.
Nick Smith of Lambda Chi Alpha will be the Vice President of Finance and Records. Smith is his chapter’s current president.
Phi Kappa Theta’s James Unverferth will serve as the Vice President of Programming. Unverferth is Phi Kappa Theta’s Executive Vice President and this year’s director of Mizzou for Movember.
Jon Strope of Kappa Alpha Order will be the Vice President of Public Relations. Strope, currently his chapter’s vice president, said he applied because he wanted to help the Greek Life community.
“(I’ll be) promoting all the benefits of Greek Life as well as all the ways it has helped the MU community and surrounding community become better through service and philanthropy donations,” Strope said.
The new executive board members will attend transition meetings and a retreat to develop goals for next year.
Wolff said a few goals for next year include working on the strategic plan, developing older IFC programs and building closer relationships with National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Association, the Missouri Students Association and individual IFC chapters.
“From what I could tell, our speeches were on the same page, and we had some idea of where we should head,” Wolff said. “It should be a great year.”
