1. Police find marijuana after driver fails to signal
An MU freshman was arrested early Monday on multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated.
MU Police Department Capt. Scott Richardson said Alexander Elias, 19, was pulled over near the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and Mick Deaver Memorial Drive after failing to signal before a turn.
“When the officer approached, the car smelled heavily of marijuana,” Richardson said. “Marijuana was discovered after a search of the vehicle. A bottle of Southern Comfort was also found in the glovebox.”
Richardson said the vehicle had one other occupant who was not charged with anything.
Elias was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, failure to signal, possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and minor in possession of alcohol.
2. Man arrested on charges of trespassing at the library, spits on officer’s face
Police arrested a man Wednesday on charges of trespassing in the Daniel Boone Public Library. Anthony Harper, 46, had been issued a trespassing warning Jan. 18 to keep away from the library property. When officers escorted Harper out of the library and to his car at 12:23 p.m., Harper spit on the officer’s face and uniform. He was charged with first-degree trespassing and third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer.
3. Freshmen arrested after smoking marijuana above police department
Three MU freshmen were arrested Wednesday afternoon in the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage on drug charges.
“While on patrol on the fourth level of the Virginia Avenue Garage, an officer observed subjects sitting in a vehicle with the car running and smoke coming from the windows,” MUPD Capt. Scott Richardson said. “When the officer checked on them and they rolled the window down, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana.”
Freshmen Nicholas Besant, Zachary E. Wilson and Blaise Marti, all 19, were arrested just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. All three were arrested on suspicion of possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
4. CPD arrest one on charges of meth production
A Columbia resident was arrested Wednesday evening on charges of meth production. An officer patrolling Business Loop West at 8:51 p.m. noticed a green Chevy truck that appeared to be incapable of staying in a single lane of traffic. The officer stopped the truck near 900 Conley Road and asked the driver, Beau Leach, 30, to step out of the car. The officer then noticed a white substance on the driver’s seat that tested positive for cocaine. In the truck bed there were also materials commonly used to produce methamphetamines. Leach was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and production of a controlled substance.
