1. Student arrested after falling asleep in Tucker Hall
MU Police arrested a student early Monday in Tucker Hall at 612 Hitt Street after he was found sleeping on the second floor and resisted arrest.
MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said officers were notified there was a man sleeping in Tucker Hall around 3 a.m. Officers arrived and found senior Jacob R. Westhoff.
“The officers tried to get him to leave, but he started to fight them,” Weimer said. “Once they arrested him, he fought to prevent them from handcuffing him. He was trying to pull his arms free, things like that.”
Westhoff, 22, was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, second-degree trespassing, third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor warrant.
2. Woman charged with threatening boyfriend with hatchet
A woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of assault and child endangerment.
Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Clinkscales Road at 12:10 a.m. after Amanda Alviso, 25, called the police asking them to remove her boyfriend from her apartment. When the officers arrived, they learned Alviso had thrown various items at her boyfriend and threatened him with a metal hatchet while he was lying on a bed. The couple’s son was in the room at the time, but was not injured in any way, according to a police report. Alviso was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and second-degree endangerment of the welfare of a child.
3. Man arrested on charges of stealing from gas station
Columbia Police Department officers arrested a man Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of stealing from a gas station. At 1:25 p.m., officers located Steven Clark, 28, outside of an apartment at 1648 Towne Drive. Upon seeing the officers, Clark fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance away. He admitted to running because he thought there was a warrant out for his arrest. There was, as he was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for not appearing in court on charges of traffic violations. Clark was also charged with misdemeanor stealing and resisting arrest.
4. Student arrested on charges of marijuana possession
An MU student was arrested Tuesday morning on drug charges. An officer traveling on West Broadway at 12:09 a.m. observed a vehicle with a headlight out. When the officer stopped the vehicle, he could smell smoke coming from the interior. The driver, 19-year-old freshman Ryan Collins, consented to a search of the vehicle, and the officer found two smoking devices and a small amount of marijuana. Collins was arrested on charges of possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
5. Rock Bridge student arrested on weed charges
A high school student was arrested Tuesday on multiple drug charges. The assistant principal of Rock Bridge High School contacted CPD officers at 10:30 a.m. and told them she had a student in her office under the influence of narcotics. The student, Parker Zyk, 17, allowed an officer to search his vehicle and a plastic bag of marijuana was found. Zyk was arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
