1. One charged with drunk driving after car chase
A woman was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of drunk driving. An officer was patrolling the area of Providence Road and Nifong Boulevard at 12:38 a.m. when he noticed a vehicle driving without its headlights on. When the officer tried to pull the driver over, she attempted to escape. The officer pursued the driver to the 4100 block of Glenview Court, a distance of about 7.5 miles. When the driver, Erika Whittington, 19, finally stopped, the officer noticed she smelled strongly of alcohol. Whittington was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, minor in possession of alcohol, resisting arrest and failing to use headlights at night.
2. Three arrested on drug possession charges
Columbia Police Department officers arrested three people Tuesday on charges of marijuana possession. They were dispatched to the 1900 block of Lightview Drive at 9:17 p.m. in reference to a suspicious vehicle. When the officers arrived, they found Yaseen Adam, Thomas Zyk and Nicholas White, all 17, smoking marijuana in the car. They were each charged with possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana, and Zyk received the additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
3. CPD officers arrest man for privacy invasion
Police arrested a man Tuesday after he peeked over a wall at a tanning salon in order to look at a woman as she tanned. They were dispatched to the Body FX Tanning Salon at 3301 Broadway Business Park Court after receiving a complaint at 10:05 a.m. A female victim said Scott Bush, 30, peeked over the partition wall between two tanning booths in order to look at her as she tanned. Bush was arrested on suspicion of second-degree invasion of privacy.
4. Man arrested after falling asleep and getting trapped in library
A man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of first-degree trespassing after he was found in Ellis Library.
MU Police Department Capt. Brian Weimer said Earl Love, 38, was found trapped underneath one of the handicap chairlifts in a space lined with newspapers.
“There were no newspapers there from the day before, so there’s no reason to believe he was there longer than a day,” Weimer said. “He had been issued a trespassing warning previously, so he was arrested.”
5. Freshmen arrested in parking structure on suspicion of marijuana possession
Two freshmen were arrested on drug charges Monday night in a campus parking garage.
Weimer said Zachary L. Froderman and Timothy W. Anderson, both 18, were found on the top level of Parking Structure 7, located at the corner of Monk Drive and Virginia Avenue.
“The officer was on routine patrol on the top of the garage, and she saw a vehicle with two white males inside that was parked with its engine and lights off and the driver’s side window down,” Weimer said.
According to MUPD records, Froderman and Anderson were arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and 35 grams or less or marijuana.
