The Boone County Jail updated its daily report to include mugshots of individuals who were arrested.
The 07:00 Report is an online record, available to the public, of everyone booked during the previous 24-hour period. The report is updated every morning at 7 a.m. and includes the individual’s name, address, charge, arrest information and case number.
All individuals who are booked are included on the 07:00 Report, but because it is only updated once a day it doesn’t mean all of these individuals are in jail.
Maj. Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said the images were added for efficiency purposes.
“We get a lot of requests for photos of the individuals that have been arrested, so it seemed a matter of efficiency to make it available via the website so that can folks can have quick access of them,” he said. “It also helps us out in reducing the number of incoming calls that we have to deal with.”
Reddin said this idea was not based on other websites.
“I’d hate to plead originality but it was,” he said. “We did not research other websites.”
Discouraging crime was not a factor in putting mugshots on the website, Reddin said.
“People are going to behave how they’re going to behave whether their picture is going to be published or not,” he said.
In addition to adding photographs, the 07:00 Report is also available to download now. The mugshots are not included in the download, which loads as a PDF or a Microsoft Excel document.
Information Technology Director Aron Gish said they did not include mugshots due to lack of time.
