A female victim was sexually assaulted at 3:50 p.m. Friday while walking to her car in lot SG4 near the Hearnes Center.
“We have had other exposure incidences that’s during the daytime, so it’s not unheard of,” MU Police Department Capt. Brian Weimer said. “It’s not typical. It’s just not typical to have any incidences like this on campus.”
The victim reported a college-aged white male of average build between 5’5″ and 5’6″ assaulted her from behind. He grabbed her buttocks and crotch area outside of the clothing, according to a news release.
The suspect was reported to have brown hair and was wearing a polo shirt, jeans and a gray baseball cap.
Weimer said awareness of surroundings can help in avoiding assault.
“Don’t have headphones in or your head buried in a book,” Weimer said. “You need to be alert as you walk to your car and have your keys ready. That being said, you can do everything right and still be the victim of the crime. It’s not like the victim did anything wrong.”
