1. Man attacks vehicle with baseball bat
Clayton Wilcox, 20, was arrested at 12:08 p.m. Thursday on the 700 block of Independence Street after a disturbance was called in, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Drouin said. Wilcox was fighting with a victim about work-related issues, and Wilcox attempted to strike the victim a few times before leaving to get a baseball bat. The bat was taken from him and the victim was unharmed, but Wilcox damaged the victim’s vehicle. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree property damage, second-degree assault and third-degree assault.
2. One arrested for drug possession
Police arrested a man wanted on a multiple charges at 1:43 p.m. Friday at University Hospital, 1 Hospital Drive. Hospital staff notified the MU Police Department after they found a patient, 51-year-old Robert Pease, with marijuana, MUPD spokesman Brian Weimer said. Pease also had a small quantity of Mad Hatter, a variety of K2 synthetic marijuana, hidden on his person. Pease was arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled substances, possession of 35 grams or less of K2, HU211, or Phenol, possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and stealing.
3. 17-year-old arrested for assault, trespassing
Officers responded to an assault report at 4:14 p.m. Friday at the 200 block of Providence Walkway. When officers arrived, they found a man who said he had been attacked by several people. Officers found the offenders nearby, and the victim confirmed Larry Brownlee, 17, was one of the individuals who assaulted him. Brownlee was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and first-degree trespassing for being on Columbia Housing Authority property.
4. Freshman charged with DWI
At 12:31 a.m. Saturday, a police officer patrolling Rollins Street saw a vehicle driving without its headlights on. The officer stopped Shelbi Karlebach, 19, and saw drug paraphernalia sitting in her car. The officer also determined Karlebach was under the influence of drugs while driving the vehicle, according to an MUPD report. Karlebach was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving without headlights on, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana.
5. Two in Discovery Hall charged with alcohol possession
MUPD officers arrested two students at 4:55 a.m. Saturday in Discovery Hall at 906 Virginia Ave. on suspicion of underage drinking. MUPD received a call from student staff in the building describing the two students, freshman Prem Vareedayah, 18, and junior Casey Melby, 19, as loud and uncooperative, MUPD spokesman Brian Weimer said. The police arrested the two students and charged each of them with purchase or possession of intoxicants by minors.
6. Man arrested on multiple drug charges
Matthew David Koehler was arrested at the 2700 block of Braemore Road when officers responded to a call at 11:28 p.m. Sunday. When CPD officers found Koehler, he had drug paraphernalia and a substance that tested positive for cocaine. Officers had probable cause to arrest Koehler on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault from a previous case. Koehler was arrested on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession or use of drug paraphernalia.
