A fight in the parking lot of a Columbia gas station led to a shooting Friday.

Shots were fired just before 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kwik Store/BP station, 5701 E. St. Charles Road. Law enforcement from Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia Police Department responded following complaints from customers and employees, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Ebony Williams, 24, turned herself in to CPD following the shooting.

Detective Tom O’Sullivan of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said the shots were intentional and there were no injuries.

O’Sullivan said the original dispute involved the male suspect not coming home on time and therefore the couple not being able to leave in the same car.

“It’s not going to make any sense if I told you,” he said. “A lot of times, these (domestic disputes) are just a culmination of a lot of bad blood that’s been brewing for a period of time.”

The sheriff’s department interviewed a 25-year-old man involved in the incident and released him. The department recovered a semi-automatic pistol across the street from the gas station. The pistol is believed to have been used in the shooting, according to the news release.

Two female children, 4 and 5 years old, were in the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Williams, 24, is being held in the Boone County Jail on charges of first-degree domestic violence, armed criminal action, two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, according to the news release. Her bail is set at $180,000.

O’Sullivan said it is common to respond to domestic disputes outside of the home. He also said it is less common for the woman to use a weapon.

“We go to domestic disputes all the time and thankfully it’s rare where any shots are fired,” he said.
