Stylitics and HerCampus are teaming up to find the “Most Stylish Campus in America” this April.
Sixty universities including Duke, Oregon State, Florida State, Dartmouth, the University of Southern California and the University of Iowa will also participate.
Stylitics, a fashion-analytics company, gives students the chance to go online, create a style profile and enter items into their virtual closet.
The virtual closet is then able to tell you how often you wear a certain item, your top colors, and a running total of how much your closet it worth.
The site is a revolutionary organizational tool in fashion for companies as well as consumers. It provides a link between the marketplace and real-time fashion data about what consumers own, buy and wear on a daily basis. A consumer can choose clothing from the actual brand, or create a picture of the garment and enter a description.
“A lot of our brand names include Forever 21, the Gap and vintage,” Stylitics marketing manager Jessica Novak said. “It’s more about knowing yourself and being to express that with your style.”
Once students create their style profile, they are able to win various prizes from Stylitics sponsors such as Lucky Brand Jeans, Chloe and Isabel, Starbucks and Rent the Runway.
“The more shares you get, the more likes you get, the more followers you get, that’s how you accumulate points through your school,” Novak said.
The Most Stylish Campus campaign ends on May 10th with the top five schools as finalists. From there, a panel of celebrity stylists and fashion experts will choose 50 style profiles and name the 50 Most Stylish Students in a gallery on HerCampus.com.
Though campus apparel seems casual, MU has communities known for their originality and flare for vintage pieces. Emily Armstrong, the Stylitics ambassador for MU, is counting on outreach through Greek Life, the artistic community, and the Textile and Apparel Management Program.
“I find stylish people in places like RagTag.” Armstrong said. “You know all the people there have such great personal style, as well as girls in TAM and art students … I think we have an artistic presence in Columbia and it radiates through the style.”
The Midwest is not the home of a thriving fashion industry, but in Columbia there is a presence of originality that the panel is looking for. Students in these various communities are excited to express the true style of MU.
“If Mizzou were to win this competition, I think it could show the world that our campus is not only trendy, but also in a trendsetting atmosphere,” sophomore Emily Daab said.
HerCampus Mizzou will also be doing promotion to get students to participate in the national competition.
“It just seems like a logical partnership,” Novak said. “They are all about personal style and being unique, so we thought that their message resonated with what we stand for as well.”
Students can create a profile on [Stylitics.com/Mizzou](http://stylitics.com/mizzou), using the passcode EA anytime until May 10.
