Come ye, come all — the Boone County Fair is here again!
The Boone County Fair was first held in 1835. This year’s fair, held July 24 to 28, has a wide variety of attractions for everyone to enjoy, including equestrian shows and fiddler jam sessions July 25 and the United Freestyle Motocross show and kickball tournament July 27.
“This fair is a surrounding community event for everyone to enjoy themselves and just to have a social time,” says Tracy Mulligan, Central Missouri Event Center show manager.
Two headlining events are expected to attract 25,000 people from surrounding communities, says Lucy Albertson, Mid Missouri Truck and Tractor Pulling Association treasurer. One main attraction, the truck and tractor pull event, gives people the opportunity to bring out their tractors. Though this is its first year at the Boone County Fair, the Mid Missouri Truck and Tractor Pulling Association has been entertaining community members with this event for 12 years.
“Truck and tractor pulling will be great at the fair,” Albertson says.
The second major attraction at the Boone County Fair, the mud volleyball tournament, will also feature a concession stand and live music. Junior high students will perform brass, pop, bluegrass, country and metal.
Other activities such as the Demolition Derby and kickball tournaments will also be held. The mud volleyball and kickball tournaments are designed especially for college students, and the 21 and older crowd can enjoy the wine and beer garden.
The Boone County Fair will have a wide variety of food, including hot dogs, corn dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and funnel cakes.
Mulligan, who attended the Boone County Fair in college and has worked there for nine years, says the fair will be appealing to all audiences but will especially bring together friends and family for a day of fun.
