Police are still looking for four suspects in a group assault outside Bengals Bar & Grill on Saturday morning.
At 1:13 a.m. Saturday, an officer from the MU Police Department was on patrol when he discovered a male who had been the victim of a group assault.
The 29-year-old man was just outside Bengals Bar & Grill in lot RC 18 on Elm and Sixth streets when he was located by the officer. The victim had gotten into an argument with a group of four men. These four individuals are the prime suspects for the group assault and allegedly began their attack during the argument with the victim, according to an MUPD news release.
“The officer was on patrol, and he came across the man,” MUPD spokesman Brian Weimer said.
The victim was injured but refused medical attention at the scene, Weimer said.
The victim was struck in the face at least once by each of the suspects. The suspects reportedly fled the scene in what appeared to be a silver Chevy Impala, according to the MUPD news release.
The victim and suspects were the only ones present at the altercation, Weimer said.
The man had not had any kind of contact with the four assailants earlier in the evening, Weimer said. The argument and assault in the parking lot is the only known contact between the two parties. The cause of the argument also remains uncertain.
“We do not know if alcohol was a factor,” Weimer said.
No further description of the alleged assailants is available at this time. Weimer said if anyone has any further information on the matter of this assault, he or she should call Detective Sam Easley at 573-884-3721 or Crime Stoppers at 573-875-9477.
