Multiple shots were fired outside a local Waffle House early Sunday after a large group gathered outside in the parking lot.
The store manager of Waffle House, located at 904 Range Line St., called the police at 1:45 a.m. Sunday because of a large crowd of vehicles and people gathered in the parking lot. Six minutes later, she heard shots and called the police again.
Investigations revealed three vehicles were present in the lot, and they fled west on Vandiver Drive immediately after the shots were fired. They were gone by the time the police arrived at the scene. Shell casings were found in the parking lots of both Waffle House and the Travel Lodge Motel, located at 900 Vandiver Drive. They were fired from two different weapons, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
A short time later, the police received another call from a woman whose car had been struck by bullets while parked at Waffle House. The car has been seized for evidence.
CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer was unable to give details about the number of people involved or release witness reports from Travel Lodge Motel at this time. No arrests have been made in connection with the shootings, Stroer said.
Twenty-one weapons violations have been reported in Columbia in the past six months, according to online police data.
