MU students and St. Louis natives Jasmine Stocking and Alison Turner collaborated Saturday at the SoCo Club to present their fall fashion lines. Doors opened for the “Where Art Meets Fashion” fashion show at 6:30 p.m. Models entered the room on a small stage and used the rest of the venue as their runway, giving the audience a close look at the pieces.
Turner describes her line, The Mad Hatter Collection, as a representation of pop culture with its bright colors and harsh cuts. Turner, who interned with designer Betsey Johnson last summer in New York, plans to return at the end of her senior year. But fashion design is only part of her talent — she is also an art major, so the venue was full of paintings and drawings for viewing before the fashion show began.
Stocking is studying human environmental sciences and textile and apparel management. She says she spends her free time preparing for more fashion events. After college, her plan is to return to St. Louis in hopes of opening up a boutique with the long-term goal of opening several locations.
When asked to describe the process of finding a venue, Stocking says she had little trouble with the task.
“All I had to do was ask,” she says.
