The No. 11 Missouri women’s soccer team (10-2, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) split its two SEC games on the road last weekend, beating Georgia on Friday and losing to Tennessee on Sunday.
Playing in rainy conditions, the Tigers managed to bite the Bulldogs 2-1 for their fifth consecutive SEC win.
“Overall it was a competitive game,” coach Bryan Blitz said in a news release. “Georgia was one of the toughest teams we’ve played all season. Their record certainly doesn’t reflect how good they are. They were a handful.”
Missouri jumped on the board in the 19th minute of the game when sophomore midfielder Abi Raymer sunk a low shot to the left corner of the goal for her fifth goal this season.
The goal elevated her to the top of the stat sheet for the Tigers with 12 points on the year.
The Bulldogs roared back in the 36th minute when Meghan Gibbons snapped a 25-yard shot to the top left corner of the goal, out of reach of redshirt sophomore keeper McKenzie Sauerwein.
The score remained tied until four minutes into the second half, when junior forward Alyssa Diggs connected on her first tally since her hamstring injury earlier in the season, giving her eight points on the season.
But the Tigers couldn’t put it away on Sunday, losing its first SEC game to Tennessee 0-1.
On the pitch, the first half was evenly played as the Tigers and Lady Vols both took a total of four shots.
In the 59th minute, Tennessee’s Tori Bailey scored a one-timer from Hannah Wilkinson.
It appeared the Tigers had tied in the 86th minute when sophomore midfielder Kaysie Clark booted a shot to the lower left side of the net, but Clark was ruled offsides.
This weekend, the Tigers return home to host Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Mississippi State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
