1. Man arrested after driving on closed campus, ignoring stop sign
Tianwei Wu, 22, was arrested at 9:31 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of various traffic violations. MU police officers on patrol reported on a radio call about a car leaving the scene of an accident. Wu did not yield to an emergency vehicle. Officers followed Wu around closed campus, trying to get him to pull over. Wu continued to drive through campus, finally stopping in a parking lot at 703 Hitt St. where he was arrested. Wu was arrested on charges for failure to yield to emergency vehicles, driving on a closed campus, failure to exhibit proof of insurance and a stop sign violation, MU Police Department spokesman Brian Weimer said.
2. Woman arrested after pulling victim’s wig off, punching her
Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched to 2621 Quail Drive at 9:33 p.m. Tuesday after two females were reported fighting. Natalie Stepney, 22, had fallen over while intoxicated and knocked a 9-month-old baby into a mirror, breaking the mirror. The mother of the child and Stepney then became involved in a physical altercation. Stepney pulled off the wig of the victim and punched her in the face before officers arrived and arrested her on charges of second-degree property damage and first-degree trespassing, spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
3. Officers track down stolen debit card
On Wednesday, MUPD officers wrapped up a theft case that began Oct. 3. Freshman Steven Deshazer, 18, used a debit card from a stolen wallet, which enabled officers to track him down. He was arrested at the station at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday on charges of property theft and fraudulent use of debit device.
4. Wanted bank robber arrested
A wanted suspect involved in two bank robberies was caught at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. CPD worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and St. Louis Metropolitan Police to find and arrest Hillary Bernard Miller IV, who had two warrants for bank robbery. Miller, 40, was found at 2902 Miami St., St. Louis, and was arrested without incident. Miller consented to a search of his residence and items from the bank robberies were discovered. Video surveillance from nearby businesses and witnesses from the banks identified Miller as the robber of the Academic Employees Credit Union at 2804 W. Ash St., which occurred June 14, and the Columbia Municipal Credit Union located at 310 E. Walnut St., which occurred July 16.
