Columbia Police Department investigators were called to four different crime scenes Tuesday night after gunshots were reported. Three men were wounded.
“The four crime scenes (were marked by) bullet casings found along the roadway, two houses and vehicles struck by bullets,” police department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
According to a CPD news release, the ongoing investigation revealed that occupants in two separate vehicles were shooting at each other.
“We have no description of suspects or vehicles,” Stroer said.
Joint Communications received multiple 911 calls at 9:43 p.m. Tuesday. Calls came in from the areas of Greenridge Road and Skyview Road along with Woodland Drive and Blue Ridge Road.
When officers arrived at the area of Woodland Drive and Blue Ridge Road, a man was running toward them from behind a residence. He suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and received medical treatment at the scene. He was not sent to the hospital.
The second victim, a young man, came around a different house on Woodland Drive to contact police officers. He received a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported by ambulance to the University Hospital Emergency Room.
“I am not sure why they approached the police except they were injured,” Stroer said.
“They are not providing information to the officers.”
Joint Communications received a call of a third victim with a gunshot wound at Boone
Hospital Emergency Room, according to the news release. The 29-year-old man suffered
a gunshot wound to his left forearm and hand.
“We suspect the shooting is gang-related,” Stroer said.
These shootings are in no way connected with the shooting that occurred on Sugar Tree
Lane the same night, Stroer said.
Officers located a large number of shell casings in the area of Greenridge Road, Skyview
Road, Blue Ridge Road and Leeway Drive. Two vehicles on Greenridge Road were also
struck by gunfire.
There is no suspect information at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
The news release urges anyone with information about the shooting to contact the
Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (573) 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
