Columbia police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that left a 17-year-old wounded Tuesday.

At 2:10 p.m., police were dispatched to the 3600 block of West Sugar Tree Lane in east Columbia for several reports of shots fired. The victim arrived at the MU Women’s and Children’s hospital a short time after in a private vehicle. The victim had received a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

No other injuries were reported. Investigators found a residence on the street was hit several times by stray bullets.

The news release stated detectives do not believe this was a random incidence.

“What I do know, is there is an ongoing dispute between the victim and the suspect,” Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.

The nature of the dispute is being kept confidential because the suspect is still at large.

The police always expect retaliation but are not aware that there will be any, Stroer said.

Patrol officers are searching the area for evidence as well as interviewing possible witnesses. The ongoing investigation has identified the suspect as Rashard L. Bigham.

The police have had minor incidences with Bigham before this point, but nothing of this magnitude, Stroer said. Bigham’s previous offenses include second-degree burglary, according to a 2010 Maneater article, as well as a current felony warrant from the Boone County Sheriff’s office, according to online police records.

Bigham is being charged with first-degree assault as well as armed criminal action.

“We would like to let the public know that Bigham is considered to be armed and dangerous,” Stroer said.

Bigham is described as a 20-year-old, 5-foot-10-inch, 175-pound black man with black hair and brown eyes.

“We are asking if anybody knows his whereabouts to please contact the Columbia Police Department as soon as possible,” Stroer said.
