The Boone County Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle around noon on Sunday for an equipment violation, which led to the arrest of the driver on suspicion of three drug violations.
Kara Schumaker, 22, was driving on I-70 when she was pulled over by Deputy Dustin Moyer because of a broken tail lamp on the driver’s side of her car.
There was an active warrant for Schumaker’s arrest after her failure to appear in court, which led deputies to search her vehicle.
Detective Tom O’Sullivan said the deputy found 3 1/2 pills of prescribed acetaminophen and oxycodone, as well as a marijuana pipe.
Acetaminophen is a painkiller, and oxycodone is an opiate narcotic that requires a prescription. The narcotics were found in a clear cigarette case in her purse.
The prescription for the narcotics was not made out in her name, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
Schumaker was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after failing to appear in Randolph County.
Her bond has been set at $8,000, O’Sullivan said.
Last April, Schumaker was fined $100 for the unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
