Two men called the Columbia Police Department early Wednesday morning after the prostitutes they hired robbed them, according to a CPD news release.
Police were dispatched to room 109 at the Econo Lodge motel on Interstate 70 in response to an armed robbery call at approximately 12:13 a.m. Wednesday. The victims were two men and the three robbers were two female prostitutes and their john, whom the men had hired earlier in the night.
“They took the victim’s wallets with money and credit cards, cell phones and a laptop,” CPD spokesman Joe Bernhard said.
The victims, ages 23 and 21, were staying at the motel on 900 I-70 drive southwest where they had arranged to meet the two prostitutes.
At about midnight, as the women were leaving, a man later identified as 39-year-old Samuel Haley entered the room with a handgun. Haley demanded money and property, according to a CPD news release.
The victims, whose names are not being released, said the two women, identified as Lashanda Marine, 21, and Whitney McKee, 24, took part in the robbery with Haley.
The victims called CPD after the suspects had fled the scene in a vehicle, which police officers found at 2939 Leeway Drive, a four-apartment building.
Bernhard said the vehicle description is not available.
Officers were dispatched to the address where the vehicle was found to arrest the suspects. Bernhard said it took about two hours to coerce them to come out willingly.
The three suspects admitted to being at the motel that night and were arrested for first-degree robbery.
“The laptop and some credit cards were recovered during the arrest,” Bernhard said.
According to the Missouri Courts’ website, the bond for Marine and McKee is set at $100,000 each. Haley’s bond is set at $200,000. The three suspects are prohibited from contacting each other.
This was the eighth robbery to take place in the city of Columbia this year, according to RAIDS Online.
