2003 – David Wilson and Paul Sturtz envision a film event intended to celebrate the new wave of cinematic documentaries.
2004 – Ragtag Cinema, The Blue Note and the Missouri Theatre host the first True/False Film Fest.
2005 – Fifty international filmmakers are present and more than 6,500 tickets are sold in the festival’s second year.
2007 – The True/Life Fund is established and raises more than $8,500 for the subjects of “We Are Together,” a documentary about an African orphanage.
2008 – Director Alex Gibney receives the festival’s True Vision Award for “Taxi to the Dark Side.” Having just won an Oscar for the film, he noted in his acceptance speech, “I looked at that as a warm-up to True/False.”
2009 – Filmmaker Kim Longinotto is the first female True Vision winner for “Rough Aunties.”
2011 – More than half of the 30,000 T/F attendees come from outside of mid-Missouri.
2012 – True/False sells a record 37,500 tickets and is staffed by more than 800 volunteers.
