The people responsible for shooting into a Bethany Drive residence at 1 a.m. Wednesday are still at large.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department received several phone calls from neighbors who reported they heard gunshots, as well as a call from the homeowners who said their house had been shot at.

Deputies from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Columbia Police Department arrived at the scene minutes after the calls came in. Officers found several shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon in front of the duplex. They also found bullet holes in the front wall of the duplex, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Four people were inside the house when the shots were fired, but no one was injured.

“The lady was asleep, the man was in the bathroom and the two small children were asleep when several shots were fired,” detective Tom O’Sullivan said. “We don’t want to release too much information about the residents because we don’t want the shooters to return in case this is a situation of mistaken identity.”

According to the news release, witnesses in the area reported seeing a vehicle they described as a late model that was a dark color and foreign-made. Witnesses reported the vehicles traveled west on Bethany and then turned south onto Scott Boulevard.

No further information is available on the vehicle or the suspects.

Officers have no leads on the case and are offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers (875-TIPS) or the Boone County Sheriff’s Department (875-1111).

CPD will soon have its criminal division investigate further, according to the news release.
