As midterm season rears its ugly head and we all start consuming our weight in coffee, the idea of a sunny, relaxing spring break only sounds sweeter and sweeter. And even though it’s still a week away, there’s nothing wrong with taking a quick study break to start fantasizing about your fabulous spring break plans.
Whether you’re planning on spending your week lounging in bed watching Netflix or soaking up the rays on some remote island, there’s a good chance you’re going to have to travel off MU’s campus to get there. And while dressing for travel can sometimes be tricky, there’s no reason you can’t look chic on all of your spring break ventures.
If your plans include some airtime, your clothing should be comfortable and functional. While you want to look like a fantastic jet-setter, running to catch your connection won’t be fun if you’re tangled up in a maxi-skirt and crop top. Instead, try layering a simple button-up over a cute, cotton tank top. A layered ensemble always looks put-together, and you’ll be able to adjust to changing temperatures as you move from one state or country to the next.
An oversized cardigan can also be a great item to bring along as it doubles as a blanket on those overly air-conditioned flights. And, most importantly, don’t complicate your footwear. Wearing shoes and socks that are easy to slip on and off will guarantee a swift move through security — you don’t want to be that one girl in stilettos holding up the entire line.
While flying can be fun, sometimes there’s no better way to travel than a classic road trip. And if you’re going to be spending hours upon hours in your car, why not dress for your destination? Dressing the part will not only keep up your excitement during your long trip, but will assure that you don’t waste any time changing your clothes once you hit your destination.
So if you’re traveling to a beach, put on a cute swimsuit cover up and your sunnies before you hit the pavement. Making your way to a music festival? Throw on your best bohemian dress and a set of bangles, and you’ll be ready to immerse yourself in all of your favorite bands the minute you park your car.
And no matter where you’re heading on your road trip, don’t leave your house without your number one accessory: a cute, spacious backpack. It can hold all of your must-have items and is easy to grab from the backseat of your car. Plus it leaves you hands-free and gives you that thrown-together look that is so perfect for vacation.
Even if you’re stuck at home over break, dreaming about that perfect vacation spot, use your time to update your wardrobe for the coming spring months. If you have a few days to spare, take a trip to some local vintage shops to look for new pieces to transition your closet into the warmer weather. Anything in neon is a great option for those sunny months, whether in the form of breezy tank tops or even strappy sandals. Other great pieces to look for are cropped jeans, floral skirts, straw sunhats and crocheted tops. Basically, if it makes you look like you stepped out of a Free People catalogue, then I’d advise picking it up.
Though you may still have some exams and projects to get through before you can start basking in spring break glory, there’s no harm in daydreaming about your upcoming adventures. And just as important, what you might wear on those said adventures. Because after all, who knows who you might meet on your travels? Happy spring breaking, fashionistas.
