Jay Nash’s new album, _Letters from the Lost_, delivers an intriguing mix of genres.
The closest genre the album could possibly be placed in is country, but Nash mixes rock and indie sounds to make this accessible and fun. The album’s highlights are when Nash creates a cacophony of all three genres, and luckily Nash does this with excellently with two songs. “Twist My Arm” is by far the album’s standout track with its upbeat guitar and piano that echoes the sounds of summer. “Blame It All on the Wind” ends the album with Nash calmly crooning in a surprising indie folk song.
With _Letters from the Lost_, every song is a surprise. Nash’s combination of genres generates surprise with every new track, which saves the album from having a slump in the middle. Every song has its place. Even the more traditional country songs like “Sometimes” and “Sailor” were unique enough to carve their way into Nash’s album.
_Letters from the Lost_ comes out on May 14, and Jay Nash should be proud of it. He took a risk with some of his songs and came out strong enough to warrant multiple replays.
