Greek Week Fling 2013 featured cliffhanger skits from a number of paired sororities and fraternities.
Alpha Phi and Alpha Gamma Rho began the night with their skit titled “The Dark Hare Rises.” The performance is about the high school-aged son of the Easter Bunny who must cover his father’s shift at the mall. Members of Kappa Alpha Theta and Beta Theta Pi followed with the first in-between act. The performers used trashcans, a violin, a guitar and a drum machine to play “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons.
Gamma Phi Beta and Delta Upsilon performed their skit, “The Toothfairy’s Rotten Romance,” in which the Toothfairy is kidnapped by the villain Gingervitis. Toothfairy’s assistant and children who did not get money under their pillows search for Toothfairy and must defeat Gingervitis.
Molly Griffin and Taylor Matichak of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Jim Bolin and Andrew Laske of Pi Kappa Alpha performed “Lighters Mash-up,” including “Lighters” by Bad Meets Evil feat. Bruno Mars, “Halo” by Beyoncé and “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj.
Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Pi and Lambda Chi Alpha performed their skit “No Dip Sherlock,” about Sherlock Holmes. When Charlie Rousseau is killed, Holmes and Watson set out to help Rousseau’s daughter identify the murderer. The skit ends when Holmes is chopped off the London Bridge.
Hayley Bublitz of Pi Beta Phi and men from Alpha Epsilon Pi performed “Cryin’ Wolf” by ZZ Ward. Mason Bikshorn performed Kendrick Lamar’s rapped verse.
Matan Kadosh and Jeremy Schmetterer of Alpha Epsilon Pi performed “The General” by Dispatch after intermission.
Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Epsilon Pi and Sigma Tau Gamma performed “King Arthur.” King Uther orders his son, Prince Arthur, to marry Princess Leona, but Arthur is in love with Gueneviere instead. The skit ends with Prince Arthur’s marriage, but not to Princess Leona.
Greek Week Director Austin Ratzki introduced the beneficiaries, which included Central Missouri Dream Factory, Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, Jumpstart, Heart of Missouri Court Appointed Special Advocates and Tiger Pantry.
Allison O’Brien and Kenzie McKeon of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Drew Horton of Lambda Chi Alpha performed “I Will Wait” by Mumford and Sons.
Kappa Alpha Theta and Beta Theta Pi performed a skit about Christopher Columbus. Columbus and his best friend, Ferdinand Magellan, fight for the love of Usa, a princess. It’s up in the air as to who will find a land to call home with Usa and capture her love.
Hail and storms delayed the start of Wednesday night’s Fling. Because of severe weather, Fling Finals announcements were made through a video on the Greek Week YouTube page instead of on the steps of Jesse Hall.
Since the inclement weather hindered the start of the show, judges and beneficiaries were not presented.
Chi Omega, Phi Kappa Theta and Alpha Tau Omega performed their skit, “American FrankenStory.” The skit is about Frankenstein’s father, who creates a date for teenaged Frankenstein to take to a dance. The townspeople are angry that Dr. Frankenstein created another monster and try to run him and his son out of town.
Lauren Haden and Kelsie Coe of Kappa Delta performed “Telescope” by Hayden Panettiere.
Delta Delta Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Theta Chi performed their skit about Bigfoot. The skit is about competing Bigfoot hunters. When friends go missing, the groups struggle to come together to find their friends.
Hannah Overfelt of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Jon Green of Phi Gamma Delta performed “A Team” by Ed Sheeran.
Sigma Kappa and Kappa Sigma performed their skit about Dracula. Claire, a journalism student, meets a vampire exchange student, Vlad. Claire’s classmate wants to take her to the school formal, but though she is interested in Vlad, the skit ends with the revelation that the two boys already know each other.
Grace Rasulo of Delta Delta Delta and Andrew Maher of Sigma Chi performed an acoustic version of “Hey Ya” by OutKast.
Paige Flores of Chi Omega and Eric McHugh and Coleman Bandy of Lambda Chi Alpha performed “Into the Wild” by LP.
Kappa Delta, Phi Gamma Delta and Tau Kappa Epsilon performed “Pandora City Beach” about Pandora’s box. The skit follows Pandora, who wants to keep the spring break parties going a little longer. She opens a box that reveals partying celebrities, but has to fill the void of the box with a sacrifice. Pandora makes her friend Hope occupy the box, and it’s unclear whether Hope will get out or not.
Brittany Wuensch and April Voltmer of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Jordan Showalter of FarmHouse and Garrett Hunkins of Alpha Gamma Sigma performed “Tornado” by Little Big Town.
Delta Gamma, Pi Kappa Phi and Phi Delta Theta were not present at Fling due to Delta Gamma’s disqualification.
Fling Finals are at 7 p.m. Friday in Jesse Auditorium.
