Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched at 12:25 a.m. Saturday in response to a disturbance in the area of Chapel Hill and Grant Lane.

CPD arrested Keep Columbia Free President Mark Flakne, 42, for unlawful use of a weapon and third-degree domestic assault.

Keep Columbia Free is a grassroots activism organization that seeks to protect the natural rights of the Columbia residents, according to its website.

Flakne was arrested for domestic assault in the third degree with a bond of $1,000 and unlawful use of a weapon with a bond of $4,500.

“The investigation revealed the female victim and Flakne were in an argument inside the car because Flakne had been drinking, and the victim didn’t want him to drive,” CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.

The victim was his 30-year-old wife.

Flakne then threatened the victim with a gun and threatened to shoot her. The victim was able to get out of the car and call the police, Stroer said.

After being taken into custody, Flakne posted the bond and was released from the Boone County Jail.

Flakne was charged with adult abuse without stalking in July 2004.
