The Missouri Student Association, in an effort with the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association, is hosting a business attire drive May 6-10.
The drive is an attempt to kickstart Truman’s Closet, a business attire lending program that was part of MSA President Nick Droege’s platform when he campaigned to be MSA president last fall. Droege learned of the idea while attending the SEC Exchange at Texas A&M, according to a [previous Maneater article](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2013/4/12/msa-passes-budget-plans-next-year/).
Since his election, Droege passed the reins of the program to the Director of Student Services Sean Joy.
“(Droege) proposed it to me when I got the (DSS) position, and I loved the idea, so I have been slowly but surely working on it ever since,” Joy said.
Bringing the program to life required Joy to seek advice from other schools with similar programs. For example, Joy said Jordan Denker, one of his assistant directors, contacted Missouri University of Science and Technology in order to lay out groundwork for Truman’s Closet.
Joy also created a three-page list comprised of multiple goals for Truman’s Closet, highlighting things such as space, inventory and marketing.
“I’ve been working down that list and figuring out what needs to be done and what needs to get done, building partnerships with the business school … and just slowly working on one thing at a time,” Joy said.
Truman’s Closet closely resembles what Droege had in mind when he first included the plan on his platform last year, Joy said. Joy has also made some additions, namely an educational component that will teach students proper business etiquette and how to behave during an interview.
As for the business attire drive next week, Joy said Truman’s Closet is looking for new to gently used clothing that can be dropped off at locations spanning from Greektown to East Campus. Exact locations are listed at [msa.missouri.edu](http://msa.missouri.edu/).
After the drive concludes, Joy said he will continue to run down his list of goals. He hopes Truman’s Closet will officially open in September.
