At about 12:35 p.m. on July 2, several shots were fired near Texas Avenue and Garth Avenue.
Officers were dispatched to this area at the same time. Reports revealed that gunfire was exchanged between an unknown number of suspects in two vehicles, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
One of the suspects found on scene was 23-year-old Cody Thomas Galbreath. He was injured with a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital. It was later confirmed that this wound was a non-life threatening injury and Galbreath was treated and discharged from the hospital, according to the news release.
Galbreath has been arrested and charged with armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a weapon.
Officers have also identified Moises Rodrigo Guillen, 22, as a suspect in the shooting. CPD is still searching for Guillen and say he should be considered armed and dangerous, CPD spokesman Joe Bernhard said in a news release Thursday.
On scene, officers found 27 bullet casings from three different weapons, according to the news release.
Bullet holes were found in some of the surrounding houses at the intersection. One of the vehicles involved in the shooting had been abandoned at a roundabout near Garth Avenue and Blue Ridge Road. The black sport utility vehicle had be marked with bullet holes. The license plate number was not identified in the media release. The second vehicle has been identified as a blue Chrysler.
On July 3, the second vehicle was located near the 1900 block of Jackson Street. It has been marked with bullet holes.
While more information will continue to be released when available, it is still uncertain why the shooting occurred.
