From the superheroes to the supernatural: San Diego Comic-Con, which took place from July 18-21, gave pop culture nerds a chance to get together. Everyone from actual cosplaying attendees to the average Tumblr user joined in on the fun and the fan-girling, and the convention left almost every fandom with something to look forward to in the next year.
Here are some of the best geeky shows, movies and games to look out for until next year’s con:
**Best TV Show**
It’s a hard life for a fan of the BBC’s “Sherlock.” With no new episode for over a year, the Sherlockians are barely holding on. That said, season three is coming soon — fans at the convention were treated to a rough, unedited clip of Watson and Sherlock’s reunion.
If the panel was any indication, the new season will send fans into a spiral of suspense, tears and admiration at the return of their favorite detective and his all-new nemesis.
Though no official airdate has been announced in the UK, it has been confirmed that “Sherlock” will air in the US in early 2014, so there’s still time to catch up on all six episodes from seasons one and two.
**Best Made-for-TV Movie**
The award for Best Made-for-TV Movie should go to ”Sharknado,” but since that’s already had its run, how about “Sharknado 2”? That’s just its working title, but after the ridiculousness of the first movie (and the animal-storm memes on the Internet), SyFy has moved the shark storm from Los Angeles to New York for 2014. Enough said.
**Best Movie**
It’s difficult to pick a “best” when it comes to Comic-Con’s variety of vigilantes, but it seems like every member of the Avengers will be able to top the box office.
Joss Whedon decided to reveal the name of the sequel to “The Avengers” at Comic-Con. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” will be released in 2015, but in the mean time, Avengers fans can look forward to the return of their favorite captain on April 4, 2014. Fans at the convention were able to preview the trailer for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” in which Cap teams up with Black Widow. However, if a superhero — or super villain — fix is needed before then, “Thor: The Dark World” will be in theaters Nov. 8, 2013.
**Best Video Game**
There are a whole bunch of games coming out towards the end of the year, and many of them will be continuations of various long-loved series.
The colorful “Pikmin 3” will finally be out Aug. 4, 2013 (the WiiU game has already been released in Asia and the UK). For fans of the seemingly never-ending TV show and Pokémon franchise, “Pokémon X” and “Pokémon Y” will be released on Oct. 12, 2013, for the Nintendo 3DS. And finally, everyone’s favorite hero is back with “Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker,” which will be on WiiUs everywhere Oct. 31, 2013.
