A registered sex offender was arrested on four counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree Wednesday.
Dwayne Robison, 29, made contact with the 13-year-old male victim Saturday at the Wabash Bus Station located at 126 N. Tenth St., according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
The pair struck up a conversation and, once on the bus, traveled to different locations around Columbia. They got off near Broadway and Hinkson Creek.
It is believed that Robison took the victim to his homeless camp and sexually assaulted him inside of a tent.
Police officers were dispatched to University Hospital at 10:25 p.m., where they learned of the incident.
“Officers located the (homeless) camp and collected evidence of the assault, but at the time did not locate the suspect,” the release said.
One officer spoke with homeless males in downtown Columbia to see if anyone knew the suspect. He was given Robison’s name.
Surveillance video from a business on Conley Road helped identify the suspect, and a mug shot taken from the Denver Police Department named Robison as a sex offender out of Nevada.
The mug shot was taken to Columbia businesses to see if anyone recognized Robison. One location said he frequented the business.
A night shift officer made contact with Robison at 1704 S. Providence Rd. He was transported to a local hospital, though he was not injured.
Following release from the hospital, Robison was transferred to the Boone County Jail. His bond is held at $400,000.
CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer called Robison’s arrest “great police work.”
Locating the crime scene, getting a name for the suspect, collecting surveillance video and contacting businesses with the suspect’s photo, made it possible to apprehend Robison so no one else would be victimized by him, Stroer said in the news release.
