On Sept. 20, two members of the Christians United for Israel chapter at the University of Missouri placed posters around campus.
The posters were hardly controversial, especially for an American university. They only stated that supporting Israel is supporting religious freedom because religious minorities are disappearing throughout the Middle East except in Israel.
It was recently noticed that one of the posters that was placed on campus had been written on with an ink pen. The writing said “GO BACK TO NEW YORK!” Whoever wrote this on the poster wanted to imply that Jews from New York (a city with a large Jewish population) colonized Israel when in fact there was already a large population of Jews living there.
This racist and anti-Semitic act was an attempt to intimidate Mizzou Christians United for Israel and is also extremely insulting to Jewish students, needless to say.
After the first person scribbled on the poster, another person wrote back. The response was “Racist. Criticize Zionism w/o anti-Semitism. Plz.”
It is unknown who either one of these writers is; we only know neither of them are a part of Christians United for Israel. We don’t know if the person who responded was pro-Israel, Christian, Jewish or even a Zionist. We do know they are against racism and anti-Semitism and for that we’re thankful.
