Every year, students attend Halloween parties only to see each other dressed in generic, sexy costumes or wearing scary masks with the jeans-and-a-T-shirt combo.
Why not stand out from the rest and dress creatively? Downtown Columbia is home to many unique thrift stores and vintage shops with a wide range of clothing items to chose from.
In MOVE’s quest to create the best costumes to make you stand out from the crowd, we hit The District:
**‘80s Chick**
It’s easy to misrepresent the ‘80s by dressing in all neon and calling it a day. However, the fluorescent look couldn’t be further from accurate.
Create a true ‘80s vibe with some denim-on-denim action. Pair an acid wash jacket with high-waisted denim shorts, and add some splashes of hot pink with a ripped tee and Wayfarer sunglasses. The pieces for this ensemble can be found at [Maude Vintage](http://www.maudevintage.com/).
As for shoes, just an old pair of Converse high tops will do. Teasing your hair provides for a classic ‘80s look, but if that requires too much effort, just put your hair in a side ponytail and you’re good to go.
**Baby Spice**
We found this adorable Union Jack dress at [Absolute Vintage](https://www.facebook.com/pages/Absolute-Vintage/103044119757119) and saw it as a sign to create a celebrity throwback look to one of our favorite girl groups of all time. Shiny red go-go boots and pigtails will having you looking like a Spice Girl in no time.
**Fighter Pilot**
The epitome of cool can be achieved by hitting up the costume party dressed as a character from “Top Gun.” Instead of dropping a good chunk of change on a Maverick costume from Party City, stop instead at [Leo’s Old Clothes](https://www.facebook.com/pages/Leos/121548384572361) and build your own fighter pilot ensemble.
The best part about this outfit? You can reuse items like the aviators or the army green jacket in your everyday looks.
**Lumberjack**
Humorous Halloween costumes are always a hit. Just take a look at the banana suit trend! Instead of taking the easy way out, however, why not be something more unexpected?
We collected various lumberjack-style pieces at [Absolute Vintage](https://www.facebook.com/pages/Absolute-Vintage/103044119757119). This look is silly, and the pieces can easily be found at any store (or even your father’s closet). Add a beard and longhaired wig to attract attention and get everyone talking.
