It may be small, but Ernie’s Cafe and Steakhouse packs a punch.
The old school diner vibe may feel overdone at times, but there’s something about Ernie’s that is particularly quirky and interesting. Maybe it’s the wall art. Maybe it’s the knick-knacks scattered around behind the bar (seriously — pay attention to those). Or maybe it’s the fact that you can grab a piece of Dubble Bubble to go along with your traditional mint while you’re on the way out the door.
What may be the most admirable aspect of Ernie’s, however, is the service. The minute you walk in the door, you’re greeted with friendliness and enthusiasm. No matter how early (the restaurant opens at 6:30 a.m., a time that, unknown to many college students, actually exists), the wait staff is energetic and eager to serve you your morning meal.
The French toast and Belgian waffles are just right if you’re looking for a sugary way to kick-start your morning, but there are plenty of other options for those with less of a sweet tooth. Veggie omelets and garden sausage are available for those who require meatless fare, as well.
So if you’re hoping to start your morning sunny side up, head over to Ernie’s, and be rewarded for getting out of bed before 2 p.m.
