If you’re looking to indulge in some late night breakfast food, Broadway Diner is a college crowd favorite.
Owner Dave Johnson says the business started in 1949 as Columbia’s first late-night restaurant.
“The diner really aimed to cater to the late night workers and students from Mizzou, Columbia College and Stephens,” Johnson says. “There are few days that pass by without an alum from any of those coming in for a quick meal and a fast shared memory.”
This old-fashioned, traditional diner atmosphere is one you can’t pass up. The service is quick and friendly, and the diner’s extensive menu is sure to have something for you.
A must-try item is the “Flat Top Scrambler,” which is scrambled eggs served on top of hash browns and stuffed with toppings of your choice. Upgrade it to a “Stretch” and have it covered in chili, peppers and onions, or make it a “Matt’s Dilemma” with added sausage and gravy on top.
Though it is known for its breakfast food, Broadway Diner also serves burgers, sandwiches, soup and salad.
Johnson says the “Coop” — which is brisket, mac ‘n’ cheese, onion, pickle and horseradish mayonnaise served in between grilled cheese — is a customer favorite.
The Diner serves these hearty meals every day from late night until lunch the next day.
