In light of the upcoming holiday season, the Environmental Leadership Office is hosting an event to advocate for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly means of shopping for gifts.
On Thursday, the Environmental Leadership Office is hosting the Thrift Shop Runway Review event — a fashion show featuring only clothes bought from secondhand stores. In anticipation of the upcoming event, MOVE sat down with Environment Leadership Office adviser Amy Eultgen to get more info.
“Every month our office has a different initiative, and November is ethical consumerism,” Eultgen says. “We go around during the holiday times and promote that Black Friday doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to go shopping, essentially for _new_ things.”
All of the clothes in the fashion show are thrifted.
“We got a bunch of different teams together that we went shopping with at Plato’s Closet, which is a secondhand store,” Eultgen says. “It’s inexpensive, it’s an easy thing, and it’s really fun to shop there, too.”
The event will also benefit a good cause.
“All of the clothes at the end of the night will be donated to Truman’s Closet,” Eultgen says.
Thrift Shop Runway Review will take place at The Shack. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.
