Another suspect was taken into custody at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in connection to the [Jan. 2 homicide](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2014/1/3/columbia-police-department-investigates-killing-ne/) of 23-year-old Dontay Tolston.
Derrick Copelin, 17, was arrested in New Orleans by local police officers on a Boone County warrant for second-degree murder.
Copelin was booked at Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Jail at 8:33 p.m. His bond is $1 million.
Copelin’s arrest follows the arrest of Martrell T. Smith, 20, on Monday.
A third suspect, 20-year-old Jimiah A. Lambert of Columbia, has still not been located. Detectives believe that Lambert has left the Columbia area, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
At this time, it is unclear how or when Copelin will be turned over to authorities in Boone County.
“It depends on if he fights extradition or not. So (it is) too early to tell yet,” Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said via email.
Further details of Copelin’s arrest have not been released at this time.
CPD detectives have traveled to New Orleans to continue the Tolston murder investigation, Stroer said.
Authorities ask that anyone with information regarding the investigation contact CPD or Crime Stoppers at 573-875-8477 to remain anonymous.
