Being a True/False volunteer comes with a lot of perks. One of the biggest perks (and the one volunteers cite as one of the best) is pretty obvious: You get to see some of the movies for free.
But it’s not just the freebies that keep the volunteers coming back.
“(I also enjoy) getting experience in whatever I’m assigned, whether it’s something I like or not,” four-time merchandise volunteer Allison D’Agostino says.
True/False volunteers are able to try new things and possibly gain a new skill.
“Many people discover talents and decide to continue cultivating these talents beyond the festival,” says Josh Hulen, an MU graduate and multiyear True/False parade volunteer.
But the goodies do not stop there. Not only are you able to see movies for free and gain experience, but there is also a chance for you to meet and interact with new people, as well.
“There’s also the social aspect of forming bonds with fellow volunteers, people who share the same passions as you,” says Emily Rosen, eighth-year volunteer and former MU student. “It is not just a film festival but a town coming to life.”
And that’s why she makes the drive every year from St. Louis to come and volunteer for True/False.
