Missouri junior forward Zach Price was arrested early Thursday morning on a count of third degree domestic assault and third degree assault, Columbia police spokesman Srgt. Joe Bernhard confirmed.
Price is the third basketball player to be arrested in a month.
According to police, Price blocked the car of his 23-year-old roommate and his acquaintance Amanda Ackerburg, 23, with his own on Stadium Blvd., and upon leaving his vehicle, struck his roommate with a closed fist.
When Ackerburg attempted to intervene, Price pushed her to the ground, police said.
“Very disappointed,” Missouri coach Frank Haith said. “It’s not the Mizzou way.”
Price was arrested on the corner of Green Meadows Rd. and Troyer Dr. a short time later at 2:30 a.m.
“They’ve been involved in an ongoing dispute since April 2,” Bernhard said of Price and his roommate.
Price, who sat out the 2013-14 season due to transfer rules, was suspended immediately from the team per athletic department policy, according to team spokesman Dave Reiter.
The arrest marks the seventh time an MU student athlete has been detained by police this academic year.
“You have to remember you are dealing with young, college-age people who might not make the best choices in the moment,” Bernhard said.
