At 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Leadership Auditorium, Phil Yu, the creator of the [Angry Asian Man](http://blog.angryasianman.com/) blog, will speak to MU students about his work in social media and activism as part of Asian American Awareness Month.
But don’t worry — rumor is that he’s really not that angry.
Asian American Awareness Month recognizes the diverse cultures, histories and traditions of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, Asian American Association president Victoria Yu says. During the month of April, AAA organizes events that encompass a balance between educational and fun cultural events. And after checking Phil Yu’s tour schedule, AAA was able to contact him and bring him to MU.
“Several AAA members follow his blog posts, so we thought it would be awesome to be able to bring Phil to our campus to share his experience and offer an educational workshop on social media activism,” Victoria Yu says.
Phil, a Korean-American, founded the Angry Asian Man blog in 2001 to discuss Asian America. Angry Asian Man receives national recognition and serves as a major source in broadcasting Asian-American news, pop culture and discrimination in the Asian and Pacific Islander American community.
[According to Phil’s blog](http://blog.angryasianman.com/p/about.html), Angry Asian Man began as a joke in college with his friends, but eventually he realized that he was passionate about racism and Asian-American issues and began to use his blog to approach them in a facetious manner.
