Robyn and Royksopp’s “Do It Again” is a whirlwind collaboration between the Swedish pop singer and Norwegian electronic music duo.
The five-track miniature album (some would call it an EP) is most certainly a multifaceted beast. From its opener, “Monument,” with twinkles of electronic texture, to the wild techno dance party, the titular “Do It Again,” this album hits every note on the EDM spectrum.
In a lot of ways, “Do It Again” is quintessential post-2007 Robyn: robot sounds, strings and carefully crafted hooks that capture pop music to a tee. However, one could also draw comparisons to Daft Punk’s “One More Time” –– it’s endlessly repetitive and borderline annoying. At the end of the day, nothing feels as emotionally authentic as her 2011 smash, “Call Your Girlfriend.”
”Do It Again” is eccentric and ends too quickly, but those considerations pale next to the fact that something a little more epic and a little more expansive might be a more sensible choice for the direction of Robyn’s next full-length album. Regardless, “Do It Again” will most definitely will serve as the score for parties, festivals and bad decisions this summer.
