_Pssst! Want a sneak peek of cool stuff going on at MOVE? Of course you do. In an effort to incorporate more longform features in MOVE, we’re starting a new series called #MOVEgoeslong. And who better to profile for our very first edition than the ladies of The Riveter Magazine –– y’know, that longform mag started by Mizzou grads? #MOVEgoeslong won’t be out until July. But here’s a sneak peek at what we’re working on:_
The Riveter and PS:Gallery are teaming up this summer for an exhibition featuring the work of seven female artists from around the country. The showcase is the brainchild of PS:Gallery director Joel Sager, who suggested the collaboration to The Riveter co-founders and MU grads Kaylen Ralph and Joanna Demkiewicz last fall.
It’s a match made in heaven, really: both the magazine and the gallery curate articles and pieces that tell stories. Both aim to make their work accessible and inclusive. The Riveter publishes longform features by women, whose voices are often underrepresented in the media. PS:Gallery showcases artwork from both locally and nationally known artists without even a hint of elitism or pretense. It’s art for everyone, explains Ralph.
“We wanted (the collaboration) to be both accessible (to attendees) and serve as a platform for the artists,” Demkiewicz says.
The featured artwork spans various media, including photography, watercolor and collage. Just as the media vary, the messages conveyed by each piece run the gamut of the human experience.
The show goes beyond “just one theme; it’s an all women’s show for everyone. It’s universal,” Ralph says.
“Our goal is to share the work of women with different stories to tell,” Demkiewicz says.
Saturday evening’s opening reception is open to the public and will feature hors d’oeuvres and drinks from local restaurants. The exhibit runs June 3 to July 26.
_Look for the first edition of #MOVEgoeslong in July._
