Canadian band Arkells, the musical love child of Imagine Dragons and Alabama Shakes, has released their third album “High Noon” which consists of a few crowd pleasers and lyrics that will stick with you. This album is on par with 2012’s “Michigan Left,” Arkells’ sophomore album that was a huge hit, winning them a Juno Award, the Canadian equivalent of the GRAMMYs.

“High Noon” opens with “Fake Money” capturing the band’s signature sound. It’s all about personal choices and values. “Come to Light,” the album’s second track, makes me feel like I’m in an ‘80s bar with a live band playing and everyone is just having a few beers and bobbing their heads. It’s that classic sound that makes this album so great. Let me grab my neon legwarmers and cropped sweatshirt. This is pure nostalgia (for an era when I wasn’t even born, but that’s OK. Let me dream.)

I can definitely hear the similarities to Arcade Fire that everyone complains about in “11:11” but that doesn’t make it a bad song. I mean, hello? Arcade Fire is great. The song also has echoes of Tegan and Sara’s “Closer.”

“What Are You Holding On To?” isn’t one of my favorites on the album, but I do love that Arkells stay true to their sound. Their sound is so organic and they don’t stray too much from their roots.

“Hey Kids!” is one of my favorite tracks — so lively and fun. “Leather Jacket,” my absolute favorite, seriously makes me want to stand on my bed and sing into cylindrical objects.

“High Noon” is a great album. If you crave a massive amount of 1980s and rock ‘n’ roll, have a listen.
