At midnight on New Year’s Eve, beloved concert venue Mojo’s will turn into Rose Music Hall.
In July, the venue, along with Ninth Street’s The Blue Note, [was sold by Richard King to Matt Gerding and Scott Leslie](http://move.themaneater.com/stories/2014/7/14/blue-note-mojos-get-new-owners/#.VG51a5PF-zk). Gerding announced Thursday a plan to rename Mojo’s Rose Music Hall, in honor of local legend Forrest Rose, an erstwhile fixture in the Columbia music scene.
“We wanted to pay tribute to local music in some way,” Gerding says.
Gerding and Leslie also hope the renaming will help as they rebrand the venue, taking it from local gem to a venue on par with more widely recognized venues.
“We felt the name carried more prestige [than Mojo’s],” Gerding says.
The venue will host CoMo’s own The Hooten Hallers for “a rowdy rock show” to ring in the new year and “a new era” for the venue, Gerding says.
In addition to a new moniker, the venue will also undergo a slight remodel, with updated lighting and other cosmetic changes.
“We want [Rose Music Hall] to become a ‘hang spot’ for local musicians,” Gerding says, with the capability to screen movies and even host weddings.
The Blue Note will also undergo renovations, with updates to its dressing rooms and bar areas in the works.
By making The Blue Note more modern, Gerding says, they are “highlighting the beauty of the theater” while retaining its charm.
