MU Health Care and School of Medicine named Brian Steines as the new chief financial officer Thursday.
As CFO, Steines will be responsible for MU Health System’s financial management, financial planning and government reimbursement.
Steines brings with him 17 years of experience in healthcare financial management in Arizona.
“With a background deeply rooted in health care and experience leading financial operations for a large health network, Brian will be involved in all aspects of the financial oversight of the School of Medicine and MU Health Care,” said Harold Williamson Jr., executive vice chancellor of health affairs, in a [news release](http://www.muhealth.org/news/releases/steines-named-cfo-of-mu-health-care-mu-school-of-medicine/) Wedensday.
Steines left his most recent position as vice president of financial operations for Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network’s Arizona market. He was in that position for seven years.
Todd LaPorte, chief financial and strategy officer for Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network, said Steines “leaves the organization stronger and well-positioned.”
According to the release, the Arizona company draws in $1.5 billion net revenue annually.
MU Health Care spokeswoman Mary Jenkins said in an email that net assets of MU Health and School of Medicine system totalled $740.1 million as of June 2014.
MU Health Care’s associate CFO Matt Levson said he will work closely with Steines at MU Health.
“(Steines) has good healthcare knowledge and he has a great ability to work with a multitude of people,” he said.
Steines graduated from the University of Pheonix with a master of business administration and master of health administration and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arizona.
Steines’s appointment follows a nationwide five-month search.
Jenkins said MU Health Care hired Witt/Kieffer, a national executive search firm, to lead the search for CFO candidates, and interviewed eight potential candidates for the position.
Kevin Necas, Steines’s predecessor, retired July 2014 after serving 10 years in the position.
