An armed robbery took place near campus last night around 2 a.m.
Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Hamilton Way at 2:26 a.m. after being notified that two men approached two female victims while they were walking home, according to a [Columbia Police Department press release](http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Public_Comm/Public_Information/Press_Releases/view.php?id=3151/).
The suspects allegedly held the women at gunpoint and demanded money. The women gave them an undisclosed amount of money, and both men then fled the scene, according to the release. The women were not injured during the robbery.
MU Alert notified students at 3:08 p.m. about the robbery. MU Police Department then also notified the campus at 3:13 a.m.

CPD has taken charge of the investigation, MUPD spokesman Capt. Brian Weimer said.
MU Alert released information about two suspects, but CPD spokeswoman Bryana Maupin said in an email that there is one confirmed suspect.
The first suspect was described in [MU Alert’s news release](http://mualert.missouri.edu/) as a male in his late 20s to early 30s, approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall with a heavy build and short black hair. He was wearing a gray zip-up hoodie, black shirt and jeans and carrying a black handgun.
A second suspect was also described in the release as a male in his 20s. He has a smaller frame and is approximately 5 feet 6 inches. There was no clothing description available.
MU Alert’s news release asked students to not post unconfirmed information or rumors on social media.
“Safety is the university’s top priority and we are working hard to assure that the campus remains safe while information is obtained and confirmed,” the release stated.
