Well everyone, it’s almost here. On May 1 (maybe even April 30 for some), superhero fans and moviegoers alike will once again come together to watch the most anticipated movie of the summer: “Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
Hopefully you’ve watched all of the Marvel movies leading up to “Age of Ultron” so you can understand what’s going on in this movie. If not, have no fear! I’ll do my best to summarize them all and what’s in store for “Age of Ultron.”
Marvel movies come out in phases. Phase One was all about the audience getting to know the heroes we love and seeing their origin stories.
After being held captive, Tony Stark went from being just a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist to all of that PLUS a tricked out super suit, becoming Iron Man.
We saw Captain America transform from a scrawny young man to a highly trained superhero due to the infamous “Super-Soldier Serum” and helped fight in World War II. Unfortunately for Cap, he was frozen for 70 years only to be awaken in the present.
Dr. Bruce Banner attempted to replicate the same serum injected into Captain America but ended up becoming a “huge green rage monster” known as The Incredible Hulk and “inevitably broke Harlem.”
The god Thor finally matures after being banished to earth by his father Odin and helped save Odin from his adopted brother Loki.
They all soon came together in one of the most historic movies of our time, “The Avengers.” Why was it historic? Never has there ever been a movie that included so many different types of heroes put together in a shared universe, let alone the fact that no one thought Marvel Studios could pull it off. Adding in Black Widow and the team’s marksman Hawkeye, this group of unlikely heroes defeated Thor’s brother Loki and relaxed at a shawarma joint afterwards. Then they parted ways again until the next time the world needed them all together again to fight the forces of evil.
Phase Two began with Tony dealing and overcoming anxiety attacks from the Battle of New York in “The Avengers” and defeating AIM mastermind Aldrich Killian.
Then Thor saves Greenwich from being destroyed from a few Dark Elves during the joining of all of the otherworldly realms in what’s called “Convergence.”
Captain America, on the other hand, discovers that S.H.I.E.L.D. was infiltrated by the evil organization HYDRA and inevitably destroyed S.H.I.E.L.D., leaving all the good guys without a job.
Then of course came the Guardians of the Galaxy, led by Star-Lord himself along with a talking raccoon, the universe’s most dangerous woman, a man with a mission to kill those who destroyed his life and a lovable but also dangerous tree-like space creature. All came together to fight power-hungry, radical kree named Ronan the Accuser from destroying the planet Xandar.
All of these events (except for Guardians) lead up to “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” What we know so far of what’s in store is that Tony Stark decided to create a program that would help keep the peace all around the world until one of his creations, Ultron, who believes humans are worthless, attempts to wipe out humanity. Joined by newcomers Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and the highly anticipated debut of the android Vision, The Avengers come together once again to save us from the brinks of destruction. What’s leaving many fans worried is who will survive. In the comics, Ultron has to be one of the most formidable foes the Avengers have ever faced. Ultron is highly intelligent with a motivation to destroy, it’s easy to be worried about the fates of our favorites heroes.
All questions will soon be answered when “Avengers: Age of Ultron” hits theaters on May 1.
