Prepare the jack-o’-lanterns and pull out the imitation Obama masks because the season of tricking and treating has fallen upon us. With that in mind, the influx of costume parties will be tremendous. As your resident fashion godmother, I want you to be prepared so I have compiled a list of Halloween costumes that will be perfect for the festive partygoer and their friends!
####1) Sticky, LaCienega, Zoey, Penny and Dijonay or the Gross Sisters from “The Proud Family”
It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since this show ended. However, it’s hard to forget the characters that “The Proud Family” introduced us to. From LaCienega’s big feet to Dijonay’s Hershey’s Kiss blonde head, this costume will not only be fun to put together but also nostalgic.
In addition to Penny and her friends, I added in the Gross sisters because who wouldn’t want to paint their face blue and mean mug everyone the whole night while asking for their lunch money?
####2) The Recess Gang or the Ashleys from “Recess”
Whenever I begin to think about the show “Recess,” the first thing that comes to mind is the theme song. It’s so catchy! The characters of “Recess” have very strong personality types, which means when you don your costume, you have to bring the personality with it.
####3) The Clovers from “Bring It On”
Sassy, fierce and equipped with a side-eye sharper than a knife, the Clovers were the lovely ladies in green, orange and yellow that reminded the world that cheerleaders were not people to play with. I admit this costume might be pretty tricky to pull off. For the really dedicated people, the best option would be to go get this one custom made.
####4) John, Allison, Claire, Brian and Andrew from “The Breakfast Club”
How can we forget about “The Breakfast Club?” Well for one thing, they asked us not to. The unforgettable John Hughes film that gives off total 80s vibes will have you feeling like you just served a Saturday in detention, but with some of the best people.
####5) The Wild Thornberrys
Am I the only one that takes so much inspiration from the epitome of teen angst that is Debbie Thornberry? “The Wild Thornberrys” was, to say the least, interesting. The family consisted of some very eccentric individuals and a boy raised by monkeys! So grab your brace-faced friend and pull out the video camera, because this costume is going to be wild.
####6) Reggie, Otto, Squid and Twister Rocket Power
This costume would be really great for the the extreme sports type of people. Not only can you dress up as hardcore kids that did just about every dangerous sport in the book, but you can ride your own slightly dangerous vehicles while doing it. Remember to wear a helmet!
####7) Kenan and Kel in Good Burger
“Welcome to Good Burger, can I take your order?” In the light of the reunion between Kenan and Kel on The Tonight Show, have your own reunion by dressing up as good old Good Burger employees.
####8) Amber, Sheila, Tammy and Debbie from The Girls’ Room (“The Amanda Show”)
The Girls’ Room has to be one of the most iconic sketches from the comedy sketch show “The Amanda Show.” Although the characters wore different outfits each episode, they all have a very specific style that will give you versatility in choosing an outfit. In the end, the biggest way to sell this costume is to stay in character the whole night. Watch an episode or two to get a feel of the girls that claimed their territory in The Girls’ Room.
####9) Scary, Baby, Posh, Ginger and Sporty of the Spice Girls
Hands down, the Spice Girls are my favorite girl group ever. Their aesthetic is just everything, which is why my girls had to make the list. The best thing about the Spice Girls costume is that just about everything they wear is a costume (come on Scary, an astronaut suit?) and their names tell you everything you need to know about how to dress.
####10) Malcolm, Diggy and Jib from “Dope”
Break out the 90s attire for this one. Malcolm, Diggy and Jib from “Dope” really rocked the 90s cultures pretty heavy. So for this costume, head to your local thrift store and find some funky prints and high waist jeans. As for whoever chooses to be Malcolm, can you pull off the hair cut?
That completes my list of group costumes, but don’t let this list of ten keep you from summoning up your own creative ideas. All I’m asking is that you do something a little more creative than the sexy cat. That costume is so overdone.
