The community of St. Thomas More Newman Center/Parish, the Catholic presence on the Columbia campus of University of Missouri, is praying for all those who are involved in the current crisis. We understand that the issues are complex, deep-seated and highly personal. Our hope is that a peaceful resolution might be found through honest, direct communication involving men and women of integrity, compassion and imagination.
We believe that solutions can be found, and that immediate resolution might be desired. The reality is that these complex, deep seated and personal issues will take time to fully comprehend and resolve. Our community prays that patience, commitment, honesty combined with willingness to compromise is present when all parties meet.
The Newman Center is dedicated to providing a safe and sacred space for students; a space for prayer, study, and community. It is open to all students. We are a staff available to listen, to support, to pray with.
Finally, we pray that everyone involved in the crisis remembers that our humanity is blest by the presence of the sacred in their hearts and minds. We are reminded that each of us is worthy of respect, and honesty in our dealings with each other. And so we pray.
Sincerely,
Fr. Rich Litzau
